Vaseline Angels

The project has got off to a flier. This was supposed to be a punked-up flurry of quick-fire tunes, all done in the live-sound manner of Bowie’s Spiders.

So the first track to be finished from the session turns out to be a soul track! R ‘n B from the mid-70s it is then.

Replete with sax and killer female vocals comes Black Holes, [2020] all quantum physics and Motown sexuality. Why not?

Setting some benchmark there.

Crutchless & Chained

This is more of a heavy rocker, in the vein of the Spiders. Got a few of the cliches in there and some humorous Daydream references to boot. Already fighting for a top three position on the album.

Something different next. Bits of tracks from the multitrack muted and unmuted randomly from the above song. Just to give an insight into how the jigsaw is constructed…..

You can hear the grinding bass and some backing vocals, alongside the lead guitars. Quite the mess!

Lightning Strikes Twice

Bit of a slow-burner, which explodes with the pounding batteria of the SS and razor guitars. Dreaming of Kings.

With its jungle beat and sexual innuendo, who knows where this is heading? Ho-Hum! Like funk on a stick, this has an infectious rhythm and harks back to the heady days of 60s r’n b but with the blaxploitation sleaze of the early 70s. Oozes a lack of charm. All about stalking and being held at knife-point. Wonderful. What would you do?

Cinderella Factory

Andy’s having a dream, which is turning into a bit of a nightmare. The banausic characteristics of the arrangement make for a great listen. A nice nod to Mick on the chorus, too.

Zion Bitch

One of the heaviest tracks unleashed by DSP. If you like guitars which drive nails into your head then this will be right up your mixed-metaphor street.

A rather pleasant ballad. Sounds like a classic. It’s a close as you’ll get to easy-listening on this site. There’s a wonderful bass line and the lyrics recall something about an arachnid.

Fanny Frightnin’

A classic from the moment the delayed slashing of the the Strat’s strings matched the pounding drums of the peerless Steve. Abjection has never been this thrilling. A beast!

Quest For The Shadowman

Glorious.

Nipple Erectors

A nice tribute to Lynch & vintage porn-stars with grinding guitars and a nod to Zep-Rex. Cock Rock? And, to my friends in Canada, I think we’ve discovered the plural of ‘moose!’

Champion Flower Grower

Vaseline Angels

Serendipity strikes again, with long-lost files (1999) found by accident. A rock masterpiece rises from the ashes. Some tracks are worth waiting for.
