Orange Blue At Falasarna
Lunchtime had become an event in itself and, after the wine had begun to blur the senses in the sunshine, seemed illusory. Time bends out of shape in Greece. It was time to move on and see something else. The journeys between the various places were themselves spectacular with dramatic drops each side of the car and frequent hair-pin bends. The road to Falarsana was fairly straightforward albeit with lovely scenery as we swept up the coastal route. Then it’s a sudden turn and you’re sliding down towards the popular beaches and village.
Here are some images of both beaches in Falasarna, Big Beach, which is long and very popular with tourists (and with expensive sun beds I am told), and Little Beach, accessed from near the delightfully-situated Orange Blue bar. We arrived in time for afternoon tea, cocktails, beers and milkshakes. Perfect. They may be growing thousands of cucumbers, but who needs a cucumber sandwich at that time of day? More tea, vicar?
I bet the evening trip is a good one. Dinner and breathtaking views of the sunset. Can’t beat it. Perhaps that’s one for the future? It’s one of those places that probably looks better from above. The photographs of this place are ubiquitous in Crete. The main image at the top shows my son enjoying an ice-cold pint in an incredible environment. The buses don’t stop here!
